Jury verdict vindicates KT against NCR Corporation in breach of agreement on its Self Serv 90 kiosk

New York: on January 4th 2019, in a Federal Court in the Southern District of New York reached a verdict in the matter between KT Group  and NCR Corporation, in regards an agreement to collaborate on a project referred to as the “London kiosk”, which later became the NCR Selfserv-90.

At the heart of the breach that NCR inflicted was the use of KT Group’s 3D CAD detailed designs.

Once they terminated our partnership, NCR should have developed its own versions of the 3D CAD detailed designs, but instead continued to base their future productions on the original KT Group files, which breached the mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement.

This, however, was much more than just reneging on a piece of paper; it was also a flagrant disregard by a large corporation to simply do the right thing and that is also why KT Group’s management decided it had to act in a manner that is a not normal reflection of our firm, as we prefer to opt for negotiating difficult situations.

In the end, we had no other choice to but seek justice in the courts, when all other avenues were exhausted, and the reflection of the jury’s verdict by KT Group’s management was not one of exhilaration or pleasure, but more it was a sense of pride in the justice system and how it upheld KT Group in its accusations, based on the preponderance of evidence in form of testimonies from both the plaintiff and defence, as well as hundreds of documents.

All these things assisted the jury in removing any doubt as to which party had acted in bad faith, which was NCR Corporation.

Custom Kiosk Designs a service on rise

Self service has enjoyed a growing expansion internationally to extent that industry business corporations have evolved to expand its product offerings, as costs are offset by demand price structures from early days to now have made it increasingly affordable to businesses to invest and thus more small to mid sized businesses are launching their products, services and solutions by means of a self service kiosk.
One such sector that we have seen a rise and demand is in custom styled kiosks,  like many manufacturers of hardware they want to offer a self styled touch to its finished product and be that in a customisations of an existing product or otherwise a complete new design just for that client more manufacturers are seeing a rise and meeting the demand.  But what does it take to create a truly successful custom kiosk sadly the majority lack the vision or experience to realise.
Design is in fact second tier before a design can be created the partners normally the client and the manufacturer should ascertain the technical, user, environment and other relevant data that need to be considered and plotted into the finished design,  then once that data is assembled next step is to identify a designer that is able due to background or education use this data together with their design experience and expertise to create some original sketches that once completed will act as a guide to a finished project.   @KT Group 14 years we have been creating and manufacturing kiosks of all types and sorts and for past 7 years our services niched into providing custom designs we have partnered with one of the youngest talented designers and together working with many well known international clients created more than 60 to date successful launchments and simply said we have a track pedigree in taking a concept to reality and beyond the samples and pilots but true to a manufacturer we have produced many thousands of machines that now today fulfill their roles in perfect synchronisation with its original requirements that set mark.

Investing Product Design

As with any business trying to get ahead in the market, or showcase a company to prospective new clients, investors or even media, we strive to raise the stakes with our intuitive product design, here at KT Group.

Being that the market for self-service kiosks is aggressively competitive to win new business and also to retain customers, it’s vital that the commercial enterprise showcases relevant products to its prospective buyers. But, to win new business, this entails grabbing the buyers’ attention and we all know from the likes of Apple, Mercedes and Gucci (to name a few), how much product development and design has pushed these brands to the pinnacle of market success. A measure of this can be a quick visit to the markets of China and Turkey, where we see fakes and copies by the dozen, but nothing replaces an original, and successful enterprises know their worth. They demand their designers bring new innovation each year, and here at KT Group it’s no different.

Since the early days, back in 2005, its owner and acting CEO began one of his core beliefs, which was that KT had to shape itself into an innovator in product design. In 11 years, the company has focussed on the manufacture of self-service kiosks and terminals and we have collated over 100 new concepts and ideas that lie at heart of the company product line.   New ideas for shapes, innovations in design and, ultimately, new physical product launches such as the Beast and Whizz terminals, come from studying everyday architecture; taking ideas from structures of all kinds and using them to form physically user friendly terminals and, just as importantly, easy to access machine component integration for serviceability, not much different than how the automotive industry experts influence new cars each year with new shapes and technology.

Our growth to date certainly is directly influenced by our product designs that we launch each year, and notably some of the designs have had an enormous impact to our growth. One model that saw KT launch itself, a few years ago, into the sports betting industry was the Beast. It first launched at ICETECH Totally Gaming back in 2013, and since then we have sold well over 1500 of these, to several sports betting brands in Europe and Africa, and our clients themselves have seen profits grow as product designs, such as Beast, entice players to approach the terminal.

Terminals are, in short, a box of some sorts, but a box doesn’t necessarily have to be four-cornered and be made from one type of material. With an abundance of new material innovations within manufacturing and sourcing, the expansion of more interesting designs will increase as long as companies like KT Group are willing to invest its resources into producing box ideas into smarter design terminal technology.

Year End 2015 KT Group Kioskterminals best year results

2015 is a year that Hong Kong based KT Group will place above the rest as a milestone for its decade anniversary the team spread across several international time barriers succedded in breaking several new achievements,  in short the milestones we completed we 5 main important goals some we set and some we achieved with great product design.

  • 10th anniversary since its original inception in January 2005 and still run by its owner and active CEO Kenneth Larsen.
  • In 2015 we also had reached our highest number of full time employees of 10
  • The company also manufactured more than 1000 terminals in total,  total number was slightly over than 1000 units.
  • Tenth year straight companies turnover and profit margins were again broken to be best year results and to keep in mind the company started back in January 2005 with a starting balance of $3,500 dollars then and now has surpassed two million dollars turnover.  Take into consideration that company has never been financed by loans and is still owned by its acting CEO
  • We also manufactured our largest single production order to date of 385 kiosks in one time that again reinforced our claim that we are able to manufacture high volume to tightest and strictest control and quality assurance this order delivered to NCR in form of their new SS90 self service checkout kiosk.
In 10 years that company has operated in industry sector of kiosk manufacturing,  we have produced over hundred unique custom designs,  not all have seen light of day for whatever reason not each project gets greenlighted or goes from sample concept to mass production but it is testament to a small enterprise that we have worked with some of the largest organisations globally and cannot just claim but also show ability of taking a conceptualised idea to a mass produced machine that today sits in some location and provides a reliable service to its users.

Some of those organisations include names like

Many others not so well known but equally important have sculptued company into whom we have become,  we have altered business practice to go from a standard kiosk manufacture to excel and focus on custom concepts and medium to high volume manufacturing and the whole company backs our dreams to extend our goals to expand this company both in success for each project we complete to excel in creating new innovations that assist our friends the humans with their daily mundane tasks.
